For the first time since Jack O'Connell left the California Assembly in 1990, this district has a real opportunity to send a home-grown Democrat to represent us in the California Assembly:  Santa Maria City Council Member Hilda Zacarias.

Hilda's background is uniquely suited to represent the Central Coast.  She came to Santa Maria as an infant and has made her home here ever since, except for brief stints for school.  She has an accounting degree from Cal Poly that she earned while raising her two (now grown) children.  She had her own tax accounting practice, worked as a staffer for Congressman Walter Capps and has run several local non-profit organizations, particularly those serving children and families.  She holds a Masters Degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, has served on the school board and is currently a member of the Santa Maria City Council and Mayor Pro Tem.

Hilda will explain her vision for a renewed California to all at a fund raising tea on September 19^th, from 1-3 p.m. at Madonna Inn.  In an effort to make this fundraiser accessible to all and encourage everyone to participate, the fundraiser portion may be paid at $10/month over 10 months through the on-line Democratic fundraising site, ActBlue, after an initial $35 payment that secures your reservation.
